Habethy Films Joins International Thriller "The Blue Box"

Variety announced last week that Habethy Films is a producing partner on The Blue Box (La Caja Azul), a Spanish-language psychological thriller co-produced by The Mediapro Studio, Infinity Hill, and IP4.

The film brings together an international production team that includes MoJo Global Arts, Sepia Films, Film Suez, Salta Violeta, Tronito, Life Is One, and Habethy Films. Anthony Epp and Helena Chicken Epp serve as producers.

About the Film

The Blue Box is a contemporary thriller set against the world of dating apps. It follows Pablo (Gustavo Bassani), a wealthy but solitary man traumatized by a fatal car accident, who meets Lara (Luisana Lopilato) through a dating app tied to the exchange of a blue box. As their relationship grows and Pablo emerges from isolation, an anonymous warning suggests Lara may not be who she seems.

The film explores themes of desire, control, memory, and family trauma through a classic genre framework—a psychological cat-and-mouse game with contemporary stakes.

Directed by Martín Hodara, The Blue Box is currently in production with an expected release later this year.

The Production Partners

The Mediapro Studio is a production-distribution powerhouse based in Madrid with 53 offices worldwide. Its productions have earned two Academy Awards, two Golden Globes, two Daytime Awards, and multiple Goya Awards.

Infinity Hill, founded by Axel Kuschevatzky, Cindy Teperman, and Phin Glynn, produced Argentina, 1985, which was nominated for an Oscar and BAFTA and won a Golden Globe.

"We love this film for its relentless drive to keep audiences on the edge of their seats and constantly surprised," said Kuschevatzky. "Working alongside such an extraordinary team of actors, technicians and producers makes the entire experience a dream come true."

What This Means for Habethy Films

This marks Habethy Films' entry into international co-production at a significant scale. Working alongside Oscar-nominated producers and global distribution infrastructure provides both learning and leverage—experience in navigating complex multi-territory financing and production, and relationships that open doors for future projects.

It's also proof of concept for the model we're building: international partnerships that allow independent Canadian producers to participate in projects with global reach while maintaining our distinct voice and approach.

The lessons from this production - how international co-productions are structured, how multi-territory distribution works, how to collaborate across different production cultures - feed directly into our approach to The Quiet Canadians and future projects.

This is what building a sustainable production company looks like: one project at a time, each one expanding capacity and credibility.
